My New Year's Resolutions

Firstly, Happy new year everyone! Hope you all had a nice and safe New Years eve and a good start in 2017. I can't believe how quick time flies by at the moment - 2017 sounds absolutely insane to me.

I love the feeling of starting a new year and as a lot of other people, I do have some Resolutions each year. I usually write crazy lists of like 20 wide goals on New Years eve, feeling super motivated and ambitious. As I always write in my Diaries since the age of seven, I easily can go back to my past resolutions and by no surprise finding at least half of them not accomplished.

So this year I wanted to change my resolution and reduce them to five defined goals and in this post, I'd like to share them with you.

Number one | The Travels

Every year I try to save up some money to do a major trip - 2016 I went to South Africa. This year I would LOVE to travel to Japan. As a Medical Student, we have to do a lot of internships in hospitals and luckily, we can do them all over the world. So I decided to apply for a four weeks internship in gastroenterology in Tokyo during summer break and have some off work time afterwards to travel through Japan. Right now, I'm at the stage of organizing everything I need to apply by the end of this week.

Number two | The Exercise

To be honest, I never was into fitness and working out. I never participate in any sports, I hated sport in school and I never get this feeling of "needing to exercise".  I don't even know how often I wrote "getting fit and shaped" or "loosing weight" in my past Resolutions. For someone who never had a good relationship with fitness, it's hard to get into the mindset of it.
But this year, I decided to do something else and changed the way I see this goal.
Last year around my 25th birthday, I decided to sign up for the Viennese half Marathon on the 23th of April with five of my girlfriends. At that time, I went running once in my entire life (well I don't count school runs), so I get that everybody thinks I'm absolutely out of my mind. But being in a team with my friends, having a commitment to not let them down (and not wasting the money I spend to sign up) and having an actual goal which I really can see and feel helped me already and maybe, training for this half marathon is going to change a huge part of my lifestyle! Well, I hope so.

Number three | The Studying

My goal of 2017 is to not stress out about every singe exam I have and generally about University. I've got quite good with stress balancing the last eight months, but every now and then I catch myself having emotional breakdowns, showing old habits and focusing on the exam in a unhealthy way. So this year, I'm going to try to focus on things I love and my hobbies instead of focusing 24/7 on University, and most importantly being aware of myself when I tend to show old habits.

Number four | The Language

This year I want to learn to speak Danish. I love Denmark and I really want to spend a proper time in Denmark, doing internships and exploring this beautiful country. I know, in Denmark pretty much everybody speaks really good in english, but actually I can imagine living there one day and probably doing my Specialist Training in Denmark in three years, so I set myself the goal to get a B1 level of danish at the end of 2017. And besides, learning a new language is such a rewarding process for me, so I'm really looking forward to it.

Number five | The Work on my Self

2016 taught me ALOT about myself in so many different aspects. I think to work on yourself, learning about what you like and not and who you are, which strengths you have and which you can develop a bit more, and in generell, working on your personal skills, confident, self esteem and your personality should be part of every new years resolution!

I would love to know if you guys have any resolutions for this year and I hope this post was a little inspiration for you!
